Wellington Timebank and the Raw Collective

I think building strong communities is a really important thing that is undervalued currently…

To celebrate Wellington Timebank‘s 4th birthday we interviewed Hannah Mackintosh who coordinates this liberating community venture. Timebank allows its members to exchange their knowledge and skills with one another, using time instead of money as currency.

No one should ever have to be lonely when you live surrounded by 300,000 people.

In the wake of the Christchurch earthquake, Lyttelton’s Timebank was shown to have a great impact on community solidarity. This caused the Newtown Community Centre to hold a workshop with the Wellington City Council on Timebanking. The meeting led to the conception of Wellington South’s own Timebank. Hannah Mackintosh spoke warmly about the friendships which have been forged through the Timebank and its enriching impact on Newtown and the greater Wellington community.

We were also lucky enough to have a live interview with three members of the Raw Collective a Funk-infused Hip Hop Band (a ten piece act!) from Wellington. They told us about their beginnings in Wellington, their summer tour around New Zealand and their debut album release!
